Transition case study database

There are many case studies on local and regional transitions. Until now, an overview of such case studies was missing. This database allows for sharing information of previously done European case studies in order to foster reuse of the knowledge gained in previous studies. Everybody is welcome to add existing case studies to the database. This can be done very simply, just send an e-mail to pathways@pbl.nl for instructions (you will need a password).

This study applies the Multi Level Perspective (MLP) on the UK mobility system. It combines niche and regime analyses to assess the feasibility of a transition in the UK mobility system. For this, the following niches are considered: hybrid electric vehicles, battery-electric vehciles, inter-modal ticketing, car-sharing, biofuels, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, urban cycling/sharing, and compact cities. The regime analysis is broken down into the following regimes: automobility, railway, bus, and cycling.

For this, the following niches are considered: solar PV, on- and offshore wind, bioenergy, CFL/LED lighting, and smart meters. The regime analysis is broken down into the electricity generation regime, the electricity consumption regime and the electricity network regime.

For this, the following niches are considered: heat pumps, district heating, waste heat recovery, indvidual metering and billing, small-scale biomass, and low-energy housing. The regime analysis is broken down into the district heating regime and the heat pump regime.

The regime analysis is broken down into gas heating systems, oil heating systems, district heating, and residential building stock.

The case is about the formation and development of a sustainable school catering company in Germany. The start of the initiative was in 2000. Back then, the organic food as well as school catering was not as widely spread as it is nowadays. The focus of the case will be on the establishment of the company and realignement after an insolvency. The main interest of the case is thus on governance.
